It has been more than 1700 years since the year 276 ce when the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus, who was born in nearby Sirmium (today Sremska Mitrovica), ordered his soldiers to plant vineyards on the southern slopes of Fruska Gora. Panonian soil, centuries of wine making experience and traditional secret recepies make Fruska Gora wines among the finest in the world. Today there are over 60 family wineries in Fruska Gora. We take you to the best known.  While tasting the wines and local Srem appetizers in a pleasant relaxed atmosphere you’ll learn about the centuries old tradition of vineyards and wine making.

In each winery it is possible to purchase wines at prices which are considerably lower than in stores.

First day

Arrival in the hotel. A bottle of Fruska Gora wine is waiting in your room. Dinner in the elegant hotel restaurant.

Second day

Fruska Gora wine adventure begins. You will visit three wineries – Deuric, Kovacevic and Mackov Podrum. All three are close to hotel Park which makes this exceptional experience pleasant and not tiring.

Through the picturesque Panonian landscape we arrive in the small village Mala Remeta and Deuric winery. Surrounded by endless vineyards and apple plantations this family winery is very impressive. From the top floor of their central building you get the stunning view looking south across River Sava all the way to Cer Mountain. You’ll see the most modern wine-making technology, hear some interesting wine tales and learn about the most important labels of the winery.

Continuing through pastoral Fruska Gora scenery we arrive in the town of Irig at the entrance to which is one of the best known wineries in Serbia -  Kovaevic. This winery produces some of the best wines in Serbia. Yu’ll learn about  the history of the winery and its most important labels.

Not far from here is our next visit – Winery Mackov  Podrum (Mackov Podrum means Tomcat’s Cellar). This family winery goes back to 1800-s. Relax in the authentic local ambiance of Tomcat’s wine house. From the hospitable staff you’ll hear some exciting wine tales. If we are lucky we’ll meet the owner, well known Sava Jojic, one of the world’s recognized wine experts.

He’ll explain why the motto of his winery is – Knowing to drink means Knowing to live.

This afternoon another adventure. You will visit two of the most significant Fruska Gora Monasteries.  Across the southern slopes of Fruska Gora we reach the famous Krusedol Monastery, the legacy of Serbian Despot family Brankovic. The Monastery is exceptionally impressive outside and inside. Throughout the centuries it has preserved the authentic style of Serbian medieval art and architecture. Opportunity to purchase organic and healing craft and produce produced by monks. Next is the Hopovo Monastery, the legacy of Despot Maksim  Brankovic. It’s monumental architecture and its religious and political historical significance make it on of the most important monument to Serbian culture.
